Policy and Issues Committee

Mandate:

1. To promote awareness and communication within CBUFA concerning policies and issues of relevance to the membership – ranging from social justice and urgent actions to CAUT bulletins, Supreme Court decisions and equity issues updates.
2. To promote awareness and encourage action on issues of social justice and global citizenship. This could include a variety of activities including but not limited to:
a. exploring options for ethical investment
b. -working with CBU’s green committee to promote sustainable practices amongst faculty (e.g. tips on the green office).
c. -working with relevant offices on campus to encourage sustainable and ethical practices at CBU.
3. To build links with other campuses and unions working on social justice issues. This could involve building partnerships and/or working with specific unions in the global South that face persecution/repression when promoting the rights of their members.

  • #CBUFAMemberMonday: Dr. Scott Stewart, Professor of #Philosophy, is the Chair of the Cape Breton University Faculty Association (CBUFA) Communications Committee and sits on the CBUFA Executive. He is the current President of the Association of Nova Scotia University Teachers (ANSUT) and is a Past President of the CBUFA. Scott has been teaching @cbuniversity for over 25 years having moved to Cape Breton around the time he was completing his PhD @uofwaterloo. His research is a bit eclectic but he concentrates mostly in the philosophy of love and sex, bioethics, and philosophy and literature. Scott regularly teaches Philosophy of Sex, Legal & Ethical Issues in Nursing, and Ethics & the Law. More occasionally, he teaches courses in #GreekPhilosophy, #MedicalEthics, #SocialJustice, and #19thCenturyPhilosophy.
