National Day of Mourning
[2008 04 22]The Cape Breton and Dsitrict Labour Council will hold its National Day of Mourning ceremony on Monday, April 28, at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 128, 850 Victoria Road, Sydney, from 11:00 AM to noon. The national ceremony honors workers who died (or were injured) on the job.
Wreaths can be ordered from any local florist, and brought or delivered to the Legion by 10:00 AM. Refreshments will be served after the ceremony.
On behalf of CBUFA (and as its Labour Council representative), I have been laying a wreath at the ceremony since 2003, although I imagine that other CBUFA members laid wreaths before I arrived at CBU.
As an environmentally friendly aside, the Labour Council will encourage participants in next year’s ceremony to lay individual roses rather than wreaths, which are shaped around styrofoam. Of course, there’s no reason why participants can’t lay individual roses at this year’s ceremony.
